CAPTURED HEARTS / PET SEARCH & RECOVERY

YOUR PET IS MISSING.
What happens next matters.

They’re family. You need a clear plan and someone who understands what’s at stake. Call Jut with the last confirmed sighting so we can assess how a thermal drone search and a coordinated ground response may help.

START NOW / STAY CALM / WORK TOGETHER

You don’t have to
figure it out alone.

Start a coordinated search as soon as you know your pet is missing. The first 48 hours are a time to gather sightings and act, not a deadline for hope. If more time has passed, still reach out.

01 / SHARE THE FACTS

Pin the last sighting.

Save the exact location and time. Gather a recent photo, your pet’s description, and any medical or mobility concerns. Send new sightings to one person coordinating the search.

02 / ALERT YOUR COMMUNITY

Get the right eyes looking.

Notify local animal control, shelters, nearby veterinary clinics, and your microchip registry. Share a clear photo and contact number with neighbors and local lost-pet groups. Ask for sightings, not a chase.

03 / KEEP THEM FROM BOLTING

Give a frightened dog space.

Don’t chase, crowd, or shout at a fearful dog. Note where it is and its direction of travel, then contact the search coordinator. Tell us whether your missing pet is a dog or cat so the plan fits the animal.

04 / ASSESS AN AERIAL SEARCH

A better view, when conditions allow.

An early drone search may help check the last-seen area before the search expands. Weather, canopy, surface temperatures, airspace, access, and availability all affect whether and when we can fly. A drone is one tool in the recovery plan.

Guidance informed by ASPCA lost-pet research and the Missing Animal Response Network. There is no guaranteed recovery window.

From our recovery work

Real searches.
Real dogs. Real care.

These are your neighbors’ dogs, located by drone and recovered by hand. The search is one part of the work. Getting safely to the animal and helping bring them home is what comes next.

FINDING THEM IS STEP ONE.

01 / LOOK FROM ABOVE

A warm shape.
A place to look.

A thermal camera detects surface heat. A pet can appear brighter than cooler surroundings, helping us identify places to check. We then work to confirm what we’re seeing.

02 / HELP SECURE THEM SAFELY

Located doesn’t
always mean recovered.

A frightened pet may not approach a person. Our planned humane trapping support adds a way to safely contain an animal when the situation calls for it, with appropriate equipment and a monitoring plan.

THE RECOVERY PATH
01

Share the sighting.

Tell us when and where your pet was last confirmed, what they look like, and any sightings since.

02

Search & confirm.

We assess conditions, search suitable areas, and work to distinguish a possible sighting from your pet.

03

Plan a safe recovery.

Choose an appropriate next step. Planned trapping support will help in cases where direct approach is unlikely to work.

THE NEXT CHAPTER / IN DEVELOPMENT

MORE SUPPORT.
One shared purpose.

We’re developing Captured Hearts as a Virginia nonprofit, with plans for a governing board and a team of members working toward one goal: helping missing pets get home.

The program is being built to bring drone searches, location confirmation, and humane trapping support together. We’ll share formation, team, and service updates as those pieces are established.

HELP BUILD CAPTURED HEARTS

They need a way home.
We need a community behind us.

A thermal camera can help us see. People, preparation, and equipment turn that sighting into a response. Help us build greater recovery capacity across the Peninsula, Greater Richmond, and surrounding communities.

CLEAR ANSWERS. CALMER NEXT STEPS.

WHEN YOUR PET
is missing.

Do you only locate pets, or help get them home?+

Our goal is a coordinated recovery effort. Drone searches are one part of that. We are developing humane trapping support to help safely contain pets when locating them is not enough. Call to confirm what support is currently available.

Can a thermal drone see through trees or buildings?+

No. Thermal cameras do not see through solid objects or dense canopy. Open sightlines, weather, vegetation, and the pet’s location all affect what can be detected.

Is humane trapping available now?+

The humane trapping program is being developed. Contact us to discuss your situation and confirm equipment, monitoring, team availability, and the scope of support before arranging a recovery.

Is Captured Hearts already a nonprofit?+

We are developing a planned Virginia nonprofit structure with a governing board and member team. Formation and service updates will be shared as those steps are completed.

What should I have ready when I call?+

Your county or town, the last confirmed sighting and time, a recent photo or description, your pet’s temperament, and any access details. We’ll ask about recent sightings and search efforts.

Can you guarantee a recovery, and what does it cost?+

No search or trapping method can guarantee a recovery. We’ll discuss feasibility, availability, scope, and any charges before work is arranged. A planned nonprofit structure does not mean every service is free.
